What is Community Bread Basket?
Mission Statement: The Community Bread Basket is a cooperative outreach fulfilling Christ’s call to Love, Service, and Justice.
The Community Bread Basket is a collaborative effort of the Weirton Ministerial Association and other churches and organizations. The Bread Basket has grown beyond all expectations since its inception in the fall of 2003 when the only services offered were utility assistance and a small food pantry. Currently they provide clients service through three main programs. Those include the original two assistance efforts, the food pantry and utility assistance, but addition they also house a “Gabriel Room”, and are part of the Information Referral Network.
How Does United Way Support Community Bread Basket?
The food pantry is open to the citizens of Brooke and Hancock counties every Friday. They ask that clients limit their visits to one per month. However, there are situations where clients are in immediate or emergency need of food, and they provide that assistance to those clients in need every day of the week.
The Utility assistance program allows them to help clients avoid utility service termination resulting from overdue bills that they are unable to meet on their own. Again, they must limit the assistance per client since the need far outweighs the resources available.
Our Gabriel Room provides assistance to parents in need of items for children newborn to size 7. There is always a need for diapers, formula, baby clothing, car seats, cribs, etc.
